We are Family!
A year-round Sibling Connection Program for Little Sibs
When children are removed from their families and placed in foster care, siblings are frequently separated because there are simply not enough foster families who can care for more than one or two children at a time. The Department of Social Services, and other agencies that train and license foster families, are working diligently to increase the number of qualified families. Social workers are eager to keep sibling groups together. The reality is they frequently cannot. There are not enough homes. We Are Family! is a Sibling Connections program that is designed to keep sisters and brothers ages 0 – 7 years connected when they are removed from their homes and each other. Camp To Belong MA and Sibling Sundays are two programs designed specifically to keep sisters and brothers ages 8 – 20 years connected year-round. We Are Family! was created to offer Little Sibs regular opportunities to come together in a developmentally appropriate play environment with trained volunteer Play Group Leaders. While the little ones engage with the Play Group Leaders in a variety of hands-on activities, the adults in their lives meet as a team to discuss the best ways to care for each sibling group and enhance their well-being.
